Gallery Show on August 6 Features New Mouth Painted Pottery by Disabled Artist Donald Ray

The public is invited to attend a free, one day only gallery show and sale on August 6, 2022 unveiling the latest creations by pottery artist Donald Ray of Boone, NC. Donald became a quadriplegic in 1992 following a diving accident and credits the arts with giving him renewed purpose following his accident. The show will take place from 1:00pm-5:00pm in the courtyard of The Martin House at 1084 Main Street in Blowing Rock, NC.

Each piece of Appalachian Mountain Pottery is uniquely designed by Donald and many pieces in this new collection have been painted by mouth. About Appalachian Mountain Pottery and Design: Donald has been creating pottery in partnership with master potter, Eric Reichard for the last twenty years. Donald and Eric have collaborated on hundreds of beautifully handcrafted pots over the last two
decades.
The creative team works together on the design and execution of each collection, with Donald creating the design using a stylus pen and computer software and, most recently, embellishing the pottery with local iconography and sometimes whimsical imagery that Donald paints by mouth. Eric completes the high quality pieces with expertly skilled firing and finishing techniques.

Donald has participated in numerous street fairs and exhibitions at the Jones House in Boone, NC. Appalachian Mountain Pottery is available at select locations including the Jonesborough Tennessee Visitor’s Center and the gift shop at The Blowing Rock tourist attraction.
